Five Skill Development Concepts

by Alan Ley

Keep in mind the following five skill development concepts.

  • Keep the repeats short.
  • Begin doing the movement slow and build to race pace but only if you can maintain proper technique.
  • Learn one new skill at a time until you get it right.
  • A good rule of thumb is to try and perform the skill ‘quietly.’ Usually the more noise you make running, swimming or cycling the worse your technique is.
  • Take enough rest between repeats. Skill and techniques workouts are to learn to do the movement properly – not for endurance.
